This question is not small talk. It is the interviewer asking whether you can communicate clearly under pressure, understand your value and connect your experience to the position.
Think: headline, proof, fit.
Part 1: The start, 20–30 seconds
Give a professional headline that makes it easy to place you: “I’m a commercial leader in professional beauty, specialising in scaling revenue through distributor and salon networks. I’m known for building high-performing teams and delivering growth in competitive markets.”
Part 2: The middle, 60–90 seconds
Choose two or three relevant highlights. Explain the challenge, what you personally decided or changed, and the result. Then name the pattern across your career, such as turning underperforming regions into growth markets or combining strategy with hands-on delivery.
Part 3: The end, 20–30 seconds
Connect your experience to this opportunity: what you want to own, why this business is relevant and why the timing makes sense. End by inviting the interviewer to explore the commercial, leadership or stakeholder side in more depth.
Delivery matters
- Aim for two minutes, with three minutes as the maximum
- Do not give your complete career timeline
- Pause between the three sections
- Practise aloud and time yourself
- On video, keep the camera at eye level and minimise distractions
